Super Heroes in Teen Ministry

Using Super Heroes to Explain Christ

Have your junior high and high school Sunday school students try this quiz:

"What would be the ultimate, supreme Super Hero that you could possibly imagine?"

Your youth will love this challenge to their God-given intellects and creativity. Don't be religious about it. Start off by talking about some of the Super Hero comics and movies you loved as a child, before you had deeper spiritual training.

Discuss the evolution of the Super Hero and how they are rooted in mythological gods and goddesses, most of whom were sinful, treacherous, violent, and carnal.

Let them come up with a list of what they think the Perfect, Most Powerful Super Hero would be able to do.

Typical Super Hero Attributes

1. Immortal -- cannot be killed or harmed.

2. Invincible -- cannot be defeated or deterred.

3. Impermeable -- cannot be influenced or manipulated.

4. Almighty -- can perform any feat of strength or power.

5. Omnicient -- knows everything always.

6. Unrestricted -- can do anything any time to anyone or anything anywhere at any time.

7. Flying -- can soar through the air and outer space without any protective uniform or special vehicle.

8. Weaponized -- equipped with a variety of attack systems.

9. Sane -- mentally perfect, with no fear, neurosis or psychosis.

10. Admired -- aside from a few enemies from the dark side, universally loved and desired.

11. Paranormal -- multi-dimensional, can time travel, can read minds, and predict the future.

12. Altruistic -- always unselfish, compassionate, restrained, humble, sympathetic, wise and willing in service.

Once your students compile their lists, have each one read it, then explain how God has shown these benevolent and majestic powers in His Son Jesus Christ.

For it is in Him that all things cohere, consist, and continue.

God has show us all EXACTLY who and what He is. God is somewhat mysterious to our limited intelligence, but has displayed all his attributes and attitudes in Jesus Christ.

The answer to any question about what God is like and what He wants is "What did Jesus say? What did Jesus do?"

Jesus Christ is all the theology you need.

He is God the Father's blog, seminar, video, and life-changing experience. All God's data has been collected and downloaded into Christ, the sum and substance of The All.
