Sermon 1: "Death Bed Meditation"
My first entry in the realm of evangelistic speeches and metaphysical musings.
I use the term "sermons" because that is a well known category, but I plan to perfect an approach that is a bit different from what you may have heard from televangelists, radio preachers, and church pastors.
This lesson deals with how nearness to death, our own especially, can jolt us into the realization that our life has not been what it was meant to be, that we have failed to live up to our ideals.
For the Christian, this focus on what we may be thinking as we die can help us to evaluate the direction of our remaining life. For the atheist, pondering your final thoughts can help you find your way to faith.
As you lie on your death bed, will you be ashamed of your life? Will you be proud of your selfishness and hedonistic pursuits? Will you bitterly regret your backsliding or your disregard of the teachings of Jesus?
Think about ... what you'll think about ... on your death bed.
