A Steady Trust in God PODCAST

Listen to internet radio with StevenStreight on Blog Talk Radio

Sermon 46  "A Steady Trust in God"

How to get rid of anxiety, stress, fear, dread, and despair -- by developing a steady trust in God.

Fear and cowardice are sins. God will not allow such mental disturbances in heaven, so we must eliminate them now. There are no exemptions from the command of Jesus Christ that we "take no thought" about our material possessions and survival needs.

"Have no anxiety" means we should not allow our hearts to be troubled, but if we do succumb to dread or despair, we must confess these mood and mentalities as sins against God, as disobedience to His will.

Our goal in this life is to be as heavenly now as we will be in heaven. We cannot wait for God to perfect us eventually, we must strive for perfection with His power and love to help us.

A sporadic, hit or miss trust in God will not pull us through the tough times ahead. Learn how to refine and reinforce your current faith until it becomes a powerful weapon against all the forces of darkness and tricks of the adversary.

The World According To Ecclesiastes PODCAST

Listen to internet radio with StevenStreight on Blog Talk Radio

Sermon 45  "The World According To Ecclesiastes"

Is the chaos and dysfunctionality of this world making you depressed? Cheer up. It has always been messed up, as our tour through the book of Ecclesiastes will show.

There is "nothing new under the sun." Just changing combinations of the same old junk. You drink the same water Jonah jumped into.

All the stupidity and cruelty keeps circulating endlessly, recycling relentlessly, being "reborn" with every new generation.

Nobody learns from the past, or pays attention to the present, or cares about the future. There has NEVER been a "Golden Age" of anything.

The "good old days" and "the coming New Age" are a myth. Some things are getting better, but most things are getting worse.

Ecclesisastes is a book of godly cynicism toward the horrible mess this world is in and how the believer in God should look at it.

This book doesn't pull any punches. It lays out exactly what's wrong with the world system of domination and exploitation. It also gives us a solid, practical viewpoint that can help us manage our lives in the evil, stupid, and insane world in which we sojourn.

"That which is crooked cannot be made straight, and that which is lacking cannot be numbered." Ecclesisiastes 1:15

We will consider the existential, skeptical, ethical, and deconstructive aspects of the contemplative thought that is expressed in Ecclesiastes, and the answers it provides for many of today's troubling issues

Discover how the profound philosophy of Ecclesiastes can actually encourage you to keep striving to succeed and win your battles, for as the world grows darker, you just shine that much brighter.

Are There Special Anointed Leaders Today? PODCAST

Listen to internet radio with StevenStreight on Blog Talk Radio

Sermon 43 "Are There Special Anointed Leaders Today?"

What does the word "anointing" mean? Is anyone anointed today?

Some false Christian teachers, fake apostles, and bad pastors run to the cover of "touch not my anointed" when you try to examine their doctrines, morality, or "miracles" and test them by the light of God's Word.

Some will even pronounce a curse or death wish on anybody who dares to scrutinize them or question their statements and practices.

What does the Old Testament scriptural phrase "touch not my anointed" mean? To whom did it refer? Did it mean to never question, criticize, or scrutinize a person?

Can a service, ministry, music, prayer cloth, website be "anointed"? When charismatic groups say "anointed" are they using the word correctly? Why has "anointed" become a buzz word implying "specially empowered for miraculous works" or "better than others"?

Are special leaders anointed -- or is every Christian believer the recipient of an anointing from God?

Why I Love Jesus PODCAST

Listen to internet radio with StevenStreight on Blog Talk Radio

Sermon 41 "Why I Love Jesus"

One way that I test the spirits and those who represent Christ is to ask them one question: what do you like best about Jesus?

One time, an old man from a local giant church came to visit. He could barely walk. It was cold and windy outside. When I asked him this question, he seemed taken off guard. He mumbled some theological doctrine, and I felt sorry for him.

If you really love Jesus, and have a genuine relationship with the Lord, you'll be overflowing with reasons why you adore Him.

Discover, in this sermon, why I, Steven Streight, love Jesus with all my heart, because of the many times He showed his love by helping me, rescuing and repairing me. I love Jesus because of His power, personality, and presence.

The work and ministry of Sermonindex can be encapsulated in this one word: REVIVAL. sermonindex is not a organisation, business, or any attempt by man to build something for God. It is rather a expression of a heart burden to see the Church revived and brought back to holiness, purity, and power with God.

"The mission of SermonIndex is the preservation and propogation of classical vintage preaching and the promotion of genuine biblical revival to this generation."

Meditations on the Beatitudes PODCAST

Listen to internet radio with StevenStreight on Blog Talk Radio

Sermon 40   "Meditations on the Beatitudes"

The 8 Blissful States -- in the light of today's world.

What does "poor in spirit" really mean, in practical terms, in our consciousness and behavior, in our daily lives?

Why is it good to "mourn"? What is "pure in spirit"? Is a "peacemaker" the opposite of a warmonger or is it just a calm, non-stressful person?

We take a close, fresh look at what is perhaps the most famous sermon of all history, the speech by Jesus Christ known as The Sermon on the Mount.

Due to time constraints, we'll narrow our field of examination and focus on the introductory statements, known as The Beatitudes, or The Blessed Be's, the 8 Blissful States of Being.

Someone recently said that while it's sad to see the 10 Commandments removed from schools and public places, the Sermon on the Mount is so radical, it would never be posted publicly.

President Obama said, in a 2006 speech, in justifying not using the Bible as a basis for politics, that if the Sermon on the Mount was government policy, it would be "so radical that it's doubtful that our own Defense Department would survive its application." Later he said the economy couldn't survive without it.

Why is this sermon of Jesus so controversial? Is it possible to live according to its ideas and demands? Are they hyperbole, exaggerations, ideals expressed in super extreme language just to be memorable? Or are they challenging us to strive for the perfection that is God Himself?

Why would Jesus praise these qualities if they were unattainable or unsustainable? Will He give us the power and wisdom we need to implement such lofty ideals?

If Jesus said "Blessed be..." various types of people, how can we start to be such people in our practical, daily lives?

Excerpts from John Shore's article in the Huffington Post "The Beatitude Attitude: 9 Tips for Avoiding Family Stress Over the Holidays" is quoted as the prologue to our discourse.

This World is a Hell PODCAST

Listen to internet radio with StevenStreight on Blog Talk Radio

Sermon 39   "This World is a Hell"

This world is a hellish place because the devil is the temporary ruler of the domination systems now operating in great wickedness.

"Hell" can be described as a place where Satan is allowed to perform nefarious, diabolical deeds and where hellish events, like war, poverty, rape, child abuse, corporate greed, exploitation, betrayal, depression, frustration, insanity, government corruption, deception, and sadism occur.

Thus, this world is a hell.

In spite of the hellish nature of this fallen and sinful world, there is some beauty, love, and tranquility within it, now and then, and we should also appreciate these positive aspects of life.

This world provides a few moments of relief from hellish events and sorrow, and those sporadic spots of calmness and happiness are the only glimpses of paradise that unsaved people will ever experience.

Bible verses will be examined that speak of this world as a place of growing darkness, where evil forces abound, and yet the light of God's love and peace can also be found.

Realizing that this world is a hell, a precursor or prologue to the ultimate, eternal hell of the lake of fire, we should be more sober, vigilant, and enthusiastic for sharing our faith and leading others to the joy and power and blessings available from God in Christ.

Discerning of Spirits, Part 1 PODCAST

Listen to internet radio with StevenStreight on Blog Talk Radio

Sermon 32    "Discerning of Spirits, Part 1"

Most Christians tend to be weak regarding the discernment of underlying attitudes, motivations, and agendas. Heresies, doctrines of demons, and unbiblical spiritual manifestations abound.

"Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world." - I John 4:1

If you question the liars and fakes, someone is likely to accuse you of intolerance or lack of compassion. But this sloppy Christianity is exploited by the devil. We need to be wise as serpents and harmless as doves.

"...who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil." - Hebrews 5:14

I have seen trolls on Christian chat rooms who are there just to disrupt and annoy. When I expose them and request that they be banned, I often get "Steven don't be like that" or "we are praying for them" or "maybe he'll learn something here".

Immaturity and lack of teaching is rampant in the churches of America. Few are strong and bold enough to take a stand against trouble makers and clever demonic influencers. There is too much "seeker sensitivity" and pampering of those who do not seek the Lord.

We should improve our ability to see through the wiles of the devil. We need to be on guard against Satan's tricks and maneuvers. Years of Bible study, evangelism, and prayer enable us to quickly spot things that are not right.

In this episode, we'll examine what spiritual discernment means in your own life, how to operate the revelation manifestation of discerning of spirits, and how to effectively confront and deal with the false prophets, deceivers, and disruptors, those who prey on the unsaved and on inexperienced believers.

Spirituality is the Goal, Not Popularity PODCAST

Listen to internet radio with StevenStreight on Blog Talk Radio

Sermon 31   "Spirituality is the Goal, Not Popularity"

What tends to be popular is that which is worldly, demonic, or vulgar. Don't judge yourself based on how many fans, friends, or followers you have. Trendy things come and go. What is popular today may be despised tomorrow.

Who cares if people ignore or shun you? Who cares if people don't understand or approve of what you're doing? You don't need praise. You don't need support. You just need to know that you're doing your best and doing what God wants you do to do, as best as you can determine His will.

Let your work exist in and for itself. If it remains in obscurity, be happy knowing your skills are improving daily and you do all things to honor God and lead others to Christ.

Noah preached for years, without making a single convert. He was ridiculed and opposed. The whole world laughed at Noah and thought he was crazy. Then -- one day -- the rains came.

Luke 6:26 "Woe unto you, when all men shall speak well of you. For so did their fathers to the false prophets.

Spiritual Combat Against Guilt and Regret PODCAST

Listen to internet radio with StevenStreight on Blog Talk Radio

Sermon 28   "Spiritual Combat Against Guilt and Regret"

One of your biggest enemies in the Christian life is guilt.

You know your sins have been forgiven, but they may still haunt you. You suddenly remember some stupid thing you said or some terrible thing you did. Regret and shame sweep over you. Remorse and self-loathing overwhelm you.

"How could I have been so sinful?" you sigh in deep humiliation. "Why did I do that? What was wrong with me?" you demand harshly from yourself.

Do you fear you may do similar things in the future, things that are just as idiotic, selfish, or vile? What are you doing spiritually, right now, to fortify yourself so that you will not fall into those old temptations and errors?

Is self-condemnation an objective reflection on our past? Can it keep us humble and on guard? Or is it just a worthless distraction, robbing us of joy, peace, and power?

Is self-loathing for past mistakes just another form of Inner Phariseeism?

Is your Current Self acting holier-than-thou, pompous, arrogant, and sadistic toward your Past Self? Is obsession over painful memories doing you any good, or is it robbing you of enjoying God's forgiveness?

What does God's Word say about feeling bad about ourselves after our sins have been forgiven? What can we do to prevent our past from haunting and tormenting us?

Sermon 27   "The Church of Just Jesus and You"

How to have church with just Jesus and you, when you have not yet found a good church to attend.

You're better off as a "Lone Ranger Christian", unchurched, unattached to any local Body of Christ, than to get involved with a church that is cultish, lukewarm, mediocre, doing the bare minimum, using worldly methods to attract youth, or so far removed from the gospel, it seems like a country club.

It's good to keep looking for a group of Christians to have fellowship with, but you can get all the nourishment you need from your study of the Bible with the Holy Spirit guiding you.

Times of isolation from other believers provide you with the opportunity to focus on your own personal relationship with Jesus Christ, your prayer life, and your private devotions.

George Barna interview Shift 07 Conference

George Barna, pollster of Christendom with the Barna Group, sits down with Bo Boshers from Willow Creek Association to talk about The Barna Group and the affect of its research on the church today. "People have their spiritual beliefs set by the age of 18. After that, there may be changes, but they are typically minimal."

Check out the new book by George Barna "Maximum Faith".

Free Methodist Church and the sign of the horns

The image above is from the website of the Free Methodist Church USA, their News and Events page.

See anything odd about it?

Look at the hand signal in the lower right corner. That is the devil salute, the standard sign of Satanism, sometimes called the rock and roll salute, maloik, or the sign of the horns.

Now why would the FMC USA be displaying this well-known hand sign on their website? An accident? Unintentional? An unfortunate coincidence? A sloppy photographer's negligence to recognize an occult demonic symbol?

Or a deliberate flashing of the real inner core of the denomination?

I hope this is just a mistake, and not intentional.

Make Jesus Christ Your Personal Companion PODCAST

Listen to internet radio with StevenStreight on Blog Talk Radio

Sermon 26   "Make Jesus Christ Your Personal Companion"

Jesus Christ doesn't need people who admire His teachings and worship Him from afar.

According to new research by George Barna, only 3% of self-described "Christians" have surrendered their life to God and are sincerely devoted to serving God and other people. Barna goes on to say that "people often fail to realize that the end game of spiritual development is godly character, not worldly accomplishments." (See Barna's book MAXIMUM FAITH).

This startling insight is the fruit of Churchianity. Churches are failing at encouraging people to have a close relationship to Jesus as an example to imitate -- and as a living and real Person who guides, empowers, warns, and corrects them.

What Christ wants is to be your intimate friend and the Lord you love and obey. You have to walk closely with Jesus, so you can imitate Him and represent Him as a light in this world.

Churchianity is what I call people, practices, and institutions that just "play church", going through the motions, participating in programs and activities, but their hearts are far from Christ.

It's easy to go to church, enjoy Christian music, read religious books, and wear tee shirts with Christian slogans -- but not really have Jesus Himself as a constant, living reality in your life.

Learn how to get closer to Jesus Christ, the Lord and Savior, without being a "holier than thou", religious fanatic.

Find out what Jesus said about those who truly love Him, as opposed to those who think they do, but their lives are worldly and their devotion is lukewarm.

Discover how to increase your power, knowledge, and joy by making Jesus Christ, not religion or church, your best friend, your eternal ally, your intimate companion.

Sermon 24   "How to Spot a Cult Leader"

Another topic you rarely encounter in any church or youth ministry: what a cult leader looks like, how they act, what makes them cultish.

When I was a teenager, cults were generally outside the church and were perscuted or preached against by the traditional denominations.

Nowadays, cult movements and agendas have slithered secretly into the mainstream churches. Could your pastor be a cult leader? What distinguishes a dangerous cult from a non-cultish spiritual operation?

What's Wrong with Pastors Today PODCAST

Listen to internet radio with StevenStreight on Blog Talk Radio

Sermon 23   "What's Wrong with Pastors Today"

A wonderful German Mennonite pastor led me to salvation in Christ when I was a teenager. He taught me that the Bible was the Word of God and worthy of my trust.

Many years later, after a long period of backsliding into sin and spiritual apathy, it was an Assembly of God pastor and a Lutheran pastor who helped rescue and restore me to a right relationship with God.

I owe much to pastors, but I have also seen some very troubling developments in modern pastoring in America.

Why does a pastor think he must be the head of the church, by leading every single function and activity, and delivering all the sermons?

Why do pastors turn to secular styles of marketing and leadership? Why do they tend to focus on success principles, material prosperity, marriage, and political issues -- while neglecting deeper problems and spiritual issues?

Why are pastors moving away from traditional hymns -- and embracing repetitious, hypnotic praise choruses and contemporary music worship services that tend to be more emotional than doctrinal?

Why do they have "organ recitals", listing the cancers and diseases of members in prayers, when that is private medical information, and the emphasis should be on the organ that needs healing, instead of the disease of the organ?

Why do pastors shy away from preaching about gluttony, warmongering, witchcraft, gambling, sports addiction, cults, false prophets, sleazy televangelists, exploitation of the poor, drugs, secularism, racism, materialism, sexism, and other controversial issues?

Are pastors responsible for the hypocrisy, Bible illiteracy, militarism, and worldliness found in today's churches?

How can we respond to pastoral deficiencies?

Most Difficult Command of Jesus PODCAST

Listen to internet radio with StevenStreight on Blog Talk Radio

Sermon 20    "Most Difficult Command of Jesus"

It's not easy to show compassion to your enemies. How many of us have ever done it?

When was the last time you did something, not because you wanted to do it, but because Jesus said to do it?

Do we bless those who curse us, or do we consider that a nice sentiment, but feel we cannot possibly implement or practice such a bizarre command?

Does showing compassion to enemies make us a chump, a coward, a masochist, a willing victim, a Stockholm Syndrome martyr who lets anybody walk all over them? What does it mean to "turn the other cheek"? Is that an invitation for someone to keep abusing you? Or does it signify that you cannot be insulted?

You've probably known people who aren't happy unless they're unhappy. People who seem to enjoy suffering, who play the martyr, who seem like they like being victimized, because it gives them something to complain about, something to attract attention to themselves. It reminds you of the phrase "MIsery loves company".

They seem to want sympathy, and not solutions. They seem to enjoy griping about things, and they resent any suggestion on how to stop enabling the attacker or allowing this suffering to continue.

How does this most difficult command of Jesus work in everyday life? What does it look like in practical application? How is it different from being a wimpy loser who invites others to mistreat them, and is easy to exploit and fun to harm?
